Troy Deeney scored two second-half penalties as Watford came back from a goal down to beat Newcastle and move six points clear of the bottom three.
Dwight Gayle put the Magpies ahead from close range when Federico Fernandez flicked on a Matt Ritchie corner.
But Deeney blasted Watford level with his first penalty after Kiko Femenia was fouled by Ritchie.
Eight minutes from time, Javi Manquillo fouled Ismaila Sarr and Deeney produced another powerful finish from the spot.
